Dear K.K.A. Families,

As children return to schools we often start to see head lice outbreaks happen in the schools, which some times leads to little outcrops here. We have had 1 suspected case of head lice in Jr K and 1 suspected case in School-age.
We take every precaution to prevent the spread and I am happy to say that everytime we have had a case of head lice at KKA it originated at one of the schools and it never spread beyond the 1 or 2 original cases. We are very thorough in how we treat it.

There are a couple things we have found effective in preventing children or teachers from getting head lice. Certain

essential oils repel head lice. It doesn’t kill them but makes the hair an inhospitable place to settle in.
Tea tree oil is effective in repelling lice. If you put 12 drops in your shampoo, conditioner, or detangling spray bottles you have a great lice repellant that is easy to apply. There is also a product called Lice Shield. It comes in a green spray bottle and can be purchased at Walgreens or Walmart. It is a combination of essential oils and smells very lemony.
I have used these products on myself and my own children and we didn’t get lice, even when it was going around. So that is my little plug. I hope this is a helpful tip that can save you the hassle of getting rid of lice after the fact.
